The Pharmacological Study of Tubercle Bacili
À¯º´¼(êäܹßú)/Yu Pyung Suh
Abstract
Introduction : Many scholars have accomplished a lot of valuable work about tubercle
bacilli, but little work has been done pharmacologicallly on the toxic reaction of tubercle
bacilli.
1. Culture of Tubercle Bacillus : B.C.G. stocks in the Sauton¢¥s medium were used
11. Method : 1. Method of manufacturing dead tubercle bacillus toxin.
2. Method of manufacturing living tubercle bacillus toxin.
3. Method of manufacturing tubercle bacillus culture liltrate.
¥². Toxicity test of tubercle bacillus towards the mouse.
¥³. Oral immunity test of B.C.G. : Oral immunity was obtained, but it was not so
successful as in the case of intracu. taneous injection.
¥´. Inoculation test of avian type tubercle bacillus towards the domestic fowl, :
Inoculation has been done only with living bacillis.
¥µ. Inoculation test of B.C.G. culture filtrate towards the guinea pig. : On observing
the inoculated animals, it was found that Romel¢¥s reaction was negative.
¥¶. Research of the factor which makes Tuberculin reaction positive. : It has been
found that the factor which makes Tuberculin reaction Positive is not in the B.C.G.
culture filtrate.
¥·. The toxicity of the avian type tubercle bacillus towards the ginea pig. : Avian
type tubercle bacillus has little toxicity towards gunea pigs.
¥¸. The influence of the avian type tubercle bacillus culture filtrate on the R.B.C.
sedimentation rate of the domestic fowl. : The rate has peen accelerated. When heated,
there has been no change.
¥¹. Pharmacological action of the toxin of tubercle bacilli. (Tried this experiment on
the lo animals respectively.)
1. Action on the irculatory system. Action on the isolated heart. The action of B.C.G.
dried powder on the isolated heart of the toad by the third of Shioya¢¥s method was
observed, on the coronary blood vessels of the rabbit by Langendorff-Natio¢¥s method
was also observed. Action on the pulmonary vessels of the toad. : In the pulmonary
circulation of the toad, pressure of the fluid (fluid of culture filtrate) has been made to
about 10cm, and irrigation has been done. Result was contraction of the blood vessels of
the liver blood vessels. Action on the leg blood vessels of the toad. : There was not
reaction. Action on the mesenteric blood vessels oft the toad. : Result was contraction of
the mesenteric blood vessels.
2. Action on the intestinal canal. Action on the small intestine of the rabbit : Magnus
of the small intestine peristaltic movement. Action on the small intestine of the domestic
fowl. : Magnus¢¥ method. The result was as above. Action on the intestinal canal of the
mouse. : The method was the same. Consequently the tension was lowered. Action on
the isolated intestine of the guinea pig. : Method and result were the same. Action on
the isolated were the same. Action on the isolated intestine of the toad. : The method
was the same, but there was no reaction.
3. Action on the isolated uterus. Actions on the isolated uterus of the mouse. : The
method was Magnus¢¥. The contraction increased. Action only the isolated oviduct of the
toad. : The method was the same and no special reaction was noted.
Conclusion :
1. The toxicty of the toxin of B.C.G. and avian type tubercle bacillus has not
been proved on my experiments.
2. Although it is possible to produce tuberculous immunity by oral administration, the
result following absorption. in the intestine seems to be different from that produced by
intracutaneous injection.
3. Bacteriological and pharmacological activities of B.C.G. and avian type tubercle
bacilli are different.
4. In the culture filtrates of both, no factor which makes Tuberculin test positive is
found, and the culture filtrate of the avian type tubercle bacillus seems to have a certain
substance which makes sedimentation rate of the domestic fowl accelerated. The above
substance has not been found to de toxic to the guinea pig.
5. pharmacologocal speaking, in the culture filtrate of tubercle bacilli, there seems to
exist a certain substance which acts activity in every organ of the living body. This
must he something excreted front the bacillus while the tubercle bacilli are living.
6. This substance has strong power of resistance to heat, and the toxicity seems to
be weakened by irrigating the liver. (supposed by the liver action)
7. It is not certain that this substance is the immunogen of tubercle bacilli.
